Sunday Zine Review #93: Nous Magazine 01

If you follow the Sunday Zine Review, you probably know that I love first issues of magazines. It's always great to see new publications emerging and especially seeing how many of them are focusing on niche topics.

This is the case of Nous Magazine, a magazine featuring creative work orbiting mental illness such as depression and anxiety. The first issue has been a result of a crowdfunding campaign and it features the work of over 40 contributors who are familiar with these illnesses, as well as with the main topic for this issue, insomnia.

The Insomnia Issue presents poetry, prose, photography and illustration pieces on an A5 format and printed in two inks. Most of these pieces deal with insomnia, depression and anxiety from a personal point of view whilst others are external interpretations of these illnesses.

Thanks to the crowdfunding campaign, Nous Magazine is available in assorted cafés, bars and venues in Manchester. You can find more information about it on Nous Magazine's website.

Vice: Young punks in the canal.

I shot these last Thursday when I went to Manchester to see Bright Eyes and Jenny Lewis. Met Rona & Aaron before the gig and they took me to the canal area, the location was incredible.

The photos are now published in Vice and Vice Style. There are some other photos from the shoot in my Cargo Collective.

By the way, I'm back in Spain only for a few days, going to Gijón on Thursday :)

Sufjan Stevens

Yesterday I went to see Sufjan Stevens in Manchester. These last days in Liverpool hadn't been my best ones to be honest, was quite stressed with university and other issues, taking some relax time and leaving this city for a while was one of the best decisions I've made lately.

I can definitely say that this has been the best gig I've ever been to. He just appeared on the stage wearing these white feather wings, started playing an updated version of Seven Swans and continued with the whole Age of Adz album and some other songs from his previous material. As he described it at the beginning of the gig, this is a travel through space and I want you to join me and enjoy it, believe me I did. A back screen showing beautiful projections and a net fabric screen that would go down on the front of stage creating a 3d effect, amazing.

He talked to the audience for long times, about his parents, the artist that inspired The Age of Adz... changed into crazy outfits and accessories, danced and came back at the end and played some of the Illinoise album. All of this during 2 hours and a half.

About the videos: fragment of Impossible Soul, full Futile Devices performance (my favourite song from The Age of Adz) and of course Chicago with balloon rain included.
