Sunday Zine Review #44: Zine Arcade 4

Today's second review is Zine Arcade 4, a really cool 'interactive' zine.

Andrew Owen Johnston is in charge of Zine Arcade, a publishing house that produces limited edition zines mainly focusing on comic and illustration.

Zine Arcade 4 is a compilation of work from different artists from all around the world, featuring 40 pages of illustration, comics and photographs.

The best thing about Zine Arcade 4 is that it is self described as a collaborative sketchbook, where readers are encouraged to participate including their drawings, doodles and notes.

I love this interaction idea, and although I still haven't left my mark on it, I will definitely do it next week!

Andrew is looking for collaborators for the new issue that will be published in 2013, you can find more information about it on Zine Arcade's site and buy the current issue on the online shop.

Sunday Zine Review #43: Cabeças by O Panda Gordo

I'm back this week with a couple of illustration zines. The first one is Cabeças by Portuguese independent publishing project O Panda Gordo.

Joao Sobral, a Communication Design student at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Oporto University, is the name behind this project. Joao has already edited 15 different publications with O Panda Gordo, mainly focusing on illustration and photography.

For Cabeças (heads in English), 5 friends from the Communication Design course got together to draw different heads. A simple idea that has produced a really nice result.

Cabeças is 28 pages of different heads. From human heads and cat heads to tribal heads and bearded heads!

You can find more information about the zine on O Panda Gordo's site and buy a copy on their online shop for just 4€.

Last picture of the roll

I normally don't like the last picture of a roll, I always choose something random to photograph in order to finish it fast and take it to develop.

Last weekend I had a photoshoot and there was only one picture left on the black & white roll after the shoot was over. The day after, I looked outside the window and took this photo.

It was a rainy morning on a bank holiday and I didn't even bother to open the window, which was covered in small rain drops. It's probably one of the first times I can say I actually like the last picture of the roll.

Sunday Zine Review #42: Traum Noir #3-4

I just recently discovered Traum Noir. After having ordered the last issue, I must say that it will definitely become of my must-buy magazines.

Traum Noir is an art magazine based and free distributed in Helsinki, although it can also be purchased on their site for just the shipping price!

The binding and paper of Traum Noir is amazing, it actually feels like a proper book and it's surprising to pay only 3€ or 4€ -depending on the issue- for such a high quality publication.

The magazine's manifesto is also great (believe me, there's nothing bad about Traum Noir). It's nice to see something honest, simple and not pretentious at all, including sentences like:

"We don't believe getting a degree, receiving prizes or doing commercial shows make an artist"

or

"We don't believe in expensive publications as the bibles of art"

Inside its pages, there's a selection of young artists and writers from all around the world, featuring some "Girls on Film"names like Alexander Alekseenko (whose photo book I reviewed here a while ago), Stephanie Gonot, Amanda Jasnowski and Emily-Jane Robinson.

If you want to get this issue, you can read it online and purchase it here.

Summer Haze

I went back home to Spain for a few days a couple of weeks ago. It was the only moment when it really felt like summer.

Here it's raining and it's quite cold and, to be honest, I actually miss not having a proper summer.

Hope you like these snaps I took during those days and also the new logo.

Greetings from The Rain Will Remain!

Sunday Zine Review #41: Now in Lemon 01

From time to time, I also like to review illustration zines. I must admit that I don't know as much about illustration as I do about photography, but I like to flip through this kind of zines, especially if humour is involved.

This is the case of Now In Lemon 01, a collaboration between Owen Priestley (thanks for sending it!) and Dan Drakeford.

Now In Lemon is 40 pages full of drawings and illustrated stories. It is a very chaotic zine containing a bit of everything, but this chaos actually really works well with the DIY aesthetics of Now in Lemon and its content.

The first issue of this publication is only £3 and can be purchased at Now In Lemon. Looking forward to seeing issue 02!

Lazy Oaf A/W 12 x C-Heads Magazine

Link
Around a month ago I collaborated again with stylist Katherine Whyte to shoot an editorial for C-Heads Magazine featuring the new collection of Lazy Oaf.

It was a fun Sunday afternoon shooting at Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow with Misha Palmer @ Model Team.

If you want to see the images bigger you can do it at C-Heads or on my website:
