Sunday Zine Review #39: Anteroom by Michela Heim

I discovered Michela's work a couple of years ago. In fact, she was one of the first photographers to have her work published in Girls on Film. In Anteroom, Michela has documented the last 10 years of her life, compiling a selection of photos taken between 2002 and 2012.

If you read my blog regularly, you would have probably seen that some of my favourite photographers are those who use the camera as a tool to record their personal experiences. I love the way Michela does this, using soft tones and creating dreamy atmospheres around the places and subjects she captures.

Browsing through the 80 pages of the book really makes you want to be in all those places Michela has photographed and also wonder who are the people she has portrayed.

The book quality is so nice, printed on beautiful matte paper and perfectly bound. If you're interested in buying a copy, you can find more information about the book on Michela's site.

Sunday Zine Review #38: No Thoughts 08

Michael J DeMeo sent me a copy of the latest issue of No Thoughts, the photography zine he puts together with Alyssa Noches. It's not the first time I talk about No Thoughts on the Sunday Zine Review and I was really glad when I first had a quick look through the zine and saw some familiar names in it.

No Thoughts 08 features the work of 26 different photographers across 60 pages, including legendary names like Flo Fox or Ray Lego and some upcoming talent like Synchrodogs (on the cover), Aaron Feaver, Amanda Jasnowski and David Richardson.

Issue 08 of No Thoughts takes delight in those moments of everyday magic in life, compiling a collection of personal and intimate occasions of heightened significance for the photographers.

Another great selection of images curated by Michael and Alyssa, who have also recently started No Thoughts Magazine, an online platform where they're sharing the latest news related to photography, art and fashion. Definitely worth a look!

Sunday Zine Review #37: OWT Reprocess

Jon Hannan from OWT Creative sent me the last zine this Manchester based collective has produced.

I've talked about OWT Creative before. In fact, in that review, I mentioned that OWT Voyage was going to be the latest issue from the OWT series they have been producing over the last year.

OWT Reprocess has been commissioned by the Manchester School of Art and uses submissions from the OWT back catalogue to form a background layer of pre-existing themes, which are combined and reprocessed by new work.

The result is amazing and the process of building the zine is also really interesting. Using GF Smith Colorplan paper and six-colour Riso printing adds further variables to the combinations of works, creating completely different zines.

Sunday Zine Review #36: Mr. Spoqui #36

Amanda Baeza, one of the founders of Mr. Spoqui, sent me a copy of their latest issue this week.

Mr. Spoqui is probably one of the most original zines I've seen in a while. On the cover, the first thing you notice is the phrase "Family Zine" placed under the title. This publication is put together by 4 Chilean siblings who are currently living in Portugal (the zine is composed of English, Spanish and Portoguese texts)

Amanda (21), Milena (19), Blanca (16) and Tiago (13) create a new zine around a different topic every two months.

The theme for this issue is Ceramics. It's great to see how the 4 siblings work together, creating the articles, illustrations and even comics that take part of the zine.

This issue features interviews with several ceramic artists - including Giorgio Di Palma - texts related to this art discipline and a bunch of great photos and drawings.
