Sunday Zine Review #32: Bikeshed 01

A couple of weeks ago, the girls behind Bikeshed zine started following me on Twitter. They were presenting the zine at Nottingham Zine Fair and I asked them if they wanted to have it reviewed here.

Last Friday I received a nice package consisting of Bikeshed 01, a tote bag and some stickers and cards. Thanks a lot again for sending it!

The first issue of Bikeshed is called the Locker Talk issue. The zine features photos, collages and texts around those years at secondary school and everything that was happening during the classes and behind the bike shed.

I love the idea and really like how Bryony, Holly and Hannah (the editors of Bikeshed) have come up with the different sections that compose the publication.

The Detention Slip feature is great, it is a collection of – hopefully real – detention notes from different schools and years. Photographer Tommy Francis portrays the middle class youth of South West London, and some of the most memorable school experiences of the zine contributors are shared along photos of drawings and texts carved on the class’ desks.

If you like what you’ve read and want to get a copy of the zine you can do it here for just £4!

Remember to follow Bikeshed on Twitter to stay updated on any future issues!

Sunday Zine Review #31: Landmark Seizures

Ralph Dorey sent me a copy of Landmark Seizures last week (Thanks a lot Ralph!). On its site, Landmark Seizures is described as a strata of work by five artists and writers.

Nicole Bachmann, Ralph Dorey, Beatriz Olabarrieta, Gino Saccone and Evan Calder Williams are involved in this project that "recognises matter as the world of the unprescribable, a world where the written is accepted as unreliable, pliable and craked."

The zine, which is a combination of texts, photographs and drawings, is a proposal for work that will be exhibited at locations that have not been yet fixed.

Landmark Seizures is printed in blue recycled paper and is available at several retailers across the UK. You can find more info about it here.

Sunday Zine Review #30: Berlin Wallride

I bought Berlin Wallride a while ago on one of my visits to Good Press Gallery in Glasgow. This photo zine is a collection of images taken by David Cooper and Jamie Shaw on a skate trip to Berlin.

Nice selection of snapshots with lots of dogs, sunsets and skate, of course.

You can get a copy at Jamie's site.

Sunday Zine Review #29: Mint Milk 01

Erica Parrott sent me a copy of her latest zine, Mint Milk. It was nice to receive an illustration zine, because most of the stuff I review is photography related.

This is the first issue of Mint Milk and I really hope to see some more in the future. I use photography as a journal and it looks like Erica is doing the same with this zine. The pages of Mint Milk are filled with drawings representing some moments of her life.

It is a really funny zine, I loved the pages talking about Art Basel (Erica lives in Florida). Although Mint Milk mainlly contains "fast drawings" and sketches, I've been checking Erica's site and she has some really amazing work using colour.

Check her Etsy profile to buy Mint Milk and her other zines!
