Sunday Zine Review #30: Berlin Wallride

I bought Berlin Wallride a while ago on one of my visits to Good Press Gallery in Glasgow. This photo zine is a collection of images taken by David Cooper and Jamie Shaw on a skate trip to Berlin.

Nice selection of snapshots with lots of dogs, sunsets and skate, of course.

You can get a copy at Jamie's site.

Sunday Zine Review #29: Mint Milk 01

Erica Parrott sent me a copy of her latest zine, Mint Milk. It was nice to receive an illustration zine, because most of the stuff I review is photography related.

This is the first issue of Mint Milk and I really hope to see some more in the future. I use photography as a journal and it looks like Erica is doing the same with this zine. The pages of Mint Milk are filled with drawings representing some moments of her life.

It is a really funny zine, I loved the pages talking about Art Basel (Erica lives in Florida). Although Mint Milk mainlly contains "fast drawings" and sketches, I've been checking Erica's site and she has some really amazing work using colour.

Check her Etsy profile to buy Mint Milk and her other zines!

Sunday Zine Review #28: Rue by Michael J DeMeo

Michael J DeMeo is a photographer and the editor of photograpy zine No Thoughts, which I reviewed a few weeks ago.

Michael sent me last week a copy of Rue, his latest photo book. "This is story about my friend...this is a story about addiction", that's how Michael describes the images contained in Rue.

This collection of photographs shows the life of Rue, Michael's friend, an addict and graffiti writer living in Boston. Michael spent sometime taking pictures of Rue's daily life and in an interview with FucknFilthy, he describes the process of doing the book as a way of holding onto Rue.

"Rue is really photogenic and not really shy about being in front of the camera. We’re all friends so it’s not a really uncomfortable situation. During this time, Rue is arrested a few more times, I put some of the mug shots in my book, and things just get pretty dark. Honestly, I figured he was going to die, so doing the book was a way of holding onto the kid."

If you take a look at Michael's previous photos you can tell that he really want to portray his subjects just the way they are. He has definitely shown this realness in the book, Rue may be one of his best photo series so far.

If you're interested in the book, you can get a copy here.

Sunday Zine Review #27: Fuego Fanzine 03

Had been wanting to get a copy of Fuego Fanzine for a while, so when the third issue arrived a couple of weeks ago I was pretty excited to flip through its pages.

Fuego is edited by Elena Gallen and Coke Bartrina. The third edition of this 'bizarre contemporary art zine' is dedicated to amulets. This issue includes a selection of texts, interviews, photo essays and even an experiment, all of them beautifully laid out.

Loved Elena's text about 'Bestiality, Violence, Hunger & Spirits', Aurelién Arbet and Jérémie Egry's photos and, of course, the experiment on the magical properties of pyramids.

Really looking forward to seeing what Elena and Coke are putting together for the next issue!

If you'd like to get a copy of Fuego you can do it here.
